Kerala is located on tropical Malabar coast of India. Which has a stretch of 600kms seashore with palm lined beaches and blue lagoon backwaters. The opposite border is Western ghat Mountains with lush green tea, coffee and spice plantations along with wildlife habitat.

1 DAY 01 - KOZHIKODE TO WAYANAD

??You will be received at Kozhikode. Journey to Wayanad.  Nestled amidst the mountains is the clean and green bliss of Kerala, Wayanad. This flourishing hill station is rich in plantation, forest and wildlife. Misty environs of Wayanad offer a wide range of trekking opportunities, plantation visits and wildlife tours. 

Behold the bounteous green cover, pristine brooks and ravines at Lakkidi viewpoint, the gateway of Wayanad. Sink into tranquillity at the magnificent views of valleys and cliffs from the vantage point.

Interested in some spooky adventure? The ficus tree anchored to the ground and tied around with a heavy chain will give you chills. Legend says that a tribal youth Karinthandan guided a British engineer to make a road through Wayanad’s forests. The engineer was reluctant to share the glory and so he killed Karinthandan. Local people believe that later the soul of the tribal youth started haunting the travellers on this way until a priest chained the spirit to the tree. 

Relax in the placid freshwaters of Pookode Lake amidst scenic beauty. The Panamaram rivulet originates from here. Famous for its peculiar shape that resembles the Indian map, it offers an exceptional boating experience.

Harrison’s tea factory (since 1910) is famous for its high-quality tea. Tea dust produced here were sent to London via Kozhikode. Different types of tea like orthodox, green and black tea are produced here. Discover the process of tea making- from leaves to dust. 

Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia is a pictorial place in the canvas of mountains. The beauty of this gigantic structure will blow your mind.

Engage in a wide range of adventure activities like kayaking, zip-line and rock climbing at Karlad lake, a natural freshwater lake. Soothe yourself in the tranquil waters while boating or bamboo rafting.  

2 DAY 02 - LUSH GREEN WAYANAD BECKONS

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the Niligiri Biosphere Reserve, rich in biodiversity. Visit the sanctuary early morning to see more animals and birds. As the daylight brightens, they will escape to the inner forest. 

Reminisce our forgotten past at Edakkal caves, one of the earliest centres of human inhabitation. These are natural caves famous for their prehistoric paintings and carvings.

Karappuzha dam is one of the most wonderful dams in Malabar. Its pictorial location and proficient architecture make it the most enchanting place with a pristine atmosphere. 

Gandhigramam, a society that originated more than 3 decades ago to help the tribal people market their products. Now it’s a federation of over 1,500 members. Their products include wild honey, turmeric, cycas, natural coffee, Brahmi powder, dry ginger, ebony, jaggery, coffee, palm sugar, gooseberries, bamboo rice, lemongrass oil, frankincense and a variety of handmade herbal soaps.  You can shop for these products if interested. 

Reminisce the past at Panamaram Jain Temple, a damaged religious centre of Jains. Kannada speaking people in Wayanad are known as Jains of the Digambara sect. It is a rectangular temple, built with stones. The magnificent carvings on the walls and pillars are evidence of the great architectural expertise of ancient Kerala. The sculptures depict Vaishnava iconography which shows their exceptional skill.

India’s history comes alive at Gandhi Museum. It is the place where Mahatma Gandhi sojourned during his visit to Wayanad in 1934. Now it is a museum where you can find many amusing collections. Pick up the receiver of the phone onto the wall and you can hear his voice. He stayed in a simple room with a straw mat on the floor. The adjacent room contains a collection of photographs from his childhood to his death. 

Catch a glimpse of Kainatty Jain Temple is a Jain temple located at Puliyarmala. It is dedicated to Ananthnath Swami, a Thirthankar of the Jain faith.

3 DAY 03 - MORE TO SEE IN WAYANAD.

Rise early for a journey to Kuruvadweep as the tickets are limited. 

Hidden in the serene waters of the Kabini river are a group of islands, the Kuruva Island. A protected river delta spread over 950 acres, this island is rich in flora and fauna and surrounded by crystalline waters. 

Take a spiritual trip to the Thirunelli temple. An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Also known as ‘Kashi of the South.’ Displays an architectural marvel. It houses a stone aqueduct that ensures uninterrupted water supply to the temple from the forest. Cold waters from the mountains gush out its channels. Devotees perform ancestral rites here. It is performed on the banks of a holy stream, Papanasini. A dip in this stream is believed to cleanse the body of all impurities. 

Panchatheertha, a holy pond towards the southern side of Thirunelli temple is adorned by many sculptures and carvings. 

Pay a visit to the Pazhassi Raja Tomb, a memorial of Pazhassi Raja, a renowned freedom fighter of Kerala. He is known as the ‘Tiger of Kerala’. The cenotaph immortalizes this brave son of Kerala.

4 DAY 04 - WAYANAD SIGHTSEEING AND KOZHIKODE JOURNEY.

Soochippara waterfalls, a sentinel rock waterfall, is a three-tier angelic beauty falling onto the granite rocks. Enjoy the breathtaking view.

Experience the vast interiors of Wayanad at 900 Kandi by jeep safari. Explore the intact lofty trees and graceful hills under the canopy of clouds.

Thusharagiri waterfalls, a set of enticing cascading waterfalls is a magnificent sight to steal. 

Journey to Kozhikode. 

Dive into the beauty and vastness of Kozhikode beach. Also, don’t miss the dolphins playing close to the shore.

Satisfy your cravings at Sweetmeat street or S.M.Street.  Mithai theruvu as it is popularly known, is a must-go place for the ‘sweet-toothed’. It is the busiest shopping street in Calicut. Rows of stalls of sweets, savouries and a bunch of other delights make it a hustling street.
