Sultan Bathery Kerala

Sultan Bathery is located at a distance of 26 kilometers from Kalpetta, 99 kilometers from Kozhikode, 95 kilometers from Ooty and 116 kilometers from Mysore, Sulthan Bathery, earlier was known as Sulthans Battery, now is a town and metropolis in the Wayanad district of Kerala.

It is located at a height of 930 meters and is a wonderful little hill station in Kerala. It is indeed one of the popular tourist places of Kerala.Placed at an altitude of 1000 meters above the sea level, the town of Sulthan Bathery boasts of an incredible topography that comprises of magnificent hills interspersed with valleys, cliffs and plains.

In older days, Sulthan Bathery was known by the names Ganapativattom and Kidanganadu, because the Kidangans used to live there.It gets its present name from Tipu Sultan of Mysore who captured the Jain temple here and used it as his battery in the 18th century.

The place is highly known for its glorious beauty and spice plantations along with luxuriant green hills and cool climate that make it a perfect holiday destination. The most significant attraction of the town is considered to be the Jain temple, which was built during the 13th century. This historic temple was used for storing ammunition by Tipu Sultan during his invasion days of Kerala. 

Some other popular attractions of the town are the Ganapati temple and Mariyamman temple. The Ganapati temple is an eight century old shrine devoted to Lord Ganesha.
